In the last few months, the children have been busy working on the allotment, changing the layout in preparation for Spring. We've added 5 new raised beds, 1 for each class. So far, they have prepared the soil for planting in March, but have already been busy planting many different varieties of herbs.
The vegetables and fruit that we will be growing down at our allotment are….
Once we have harvested our crops, the children will either sell the produce at our regular markets or use the vegetables and fruit to make home-made preserves.
At the start of the new academic year, we ask all parents to provide children with a gardening kit, which includes gardening gloves, old trousers, a top, a jumper and wellington boots. We keep these in each classroom, so we can access the allotment all year round.
Our allotment is very important to the children as it gives them a sense of ownership and allows them to see nature at work...from seed through to harvest.
