Dear parents and carers,
This week, our classes have been out around our local area carrying out a range of litter picks as part of ‘The Big Clean’ around North Devon. The children looked at cleaning the areas around the school, the village field and the hedges and grass banks of the car park at Lovacott Village Hall. We were surprised to see the number of wrappers and empty food packets the children collected from the car park and around the school. Despite searching well, class 2 found very little litter in the field. In their discussions, the children asked if they could go back to carry out a further litter pick as the weather brightens, when more people will be using the field. The children will be creating posters over the next few weeks to display around the village about how people can keep our village clean. A big well done to all our children who demonstrated our school value of co-operation to work together to keep our village clean!
Nursery Places at HNTPS
We have recently been able to increase our capacity in our nursery and can now offer morning, afternoon or full day sessions from 9am to 3.30pm, along with breakfast club from 7.40am if required. Children can attend using their entitlement to funded childcare and parents and carers can also extend this by paying for any additional sessions they may need. If you know of any families with preschool children who are looking for high-quality provision, please can you encourage them to look on our website and to contact school where we would be happy to arrange visits and discuss their needs.
Time Tables Rock Stars Day
What a fantastic way to end the week! The children were very creative in their costumes and props as they turned up to school in their rock star outfits this morning. Classrooms were full of excitement and an array of maths activities and challenges that provided the children with an opportunity to consolidate ‘groups of’, creating arrays and recall their times tables facts. These key skills will support children’s maths recall of facts and help to problem-solve in our maths lesson.
Year 5 Residential
I met with the children after lunch today to talk through our final preparations for our residential to London on Tuesday next week. The children are very excited, and with our packed itinerary we will have lots to see and do. Please can I remind parents that I will need any sickness tablets or other medication in school on Monday and parents will need to complete a green medical form. I am looking forward to seeing all the children bright and early at High Bickington School at 6:45am on Tuesday morning. We will keep parents regularly updated through our Facebook page across the week.
Mental Health Awareness Week
As part of children’s mental health awareness week, we would like the children to come to school wearing yellow (or bright colours) on the last day of term – Friday 13th February. Across the day, the children will be exploring various activities they can use to support their mental health both in and out of school. We look forward to sharing the children’s feedback with you after the half-term holidays.
Book and Biscuit session
Just to remind all our parents and carers that we have planned this half-term’s Book and Biscuit session on Monday 9th February. The children are looking forward to sharing what they have been doing in science this year with their families.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,
Mrs Cook
