HNTPS Weekly Newsletter:  Friday 1st May 2026

Horwood and Newton Tracey Primary School

Enabling children to be the best that they can be!

Dear parents and carers,

This week in our whole school assembly, we looked at a range of famous leaders, both past and present, and as a whole school we discussed why they were a great leader and how they supported and lead others.  The children reflected on times when they found things difficult, and how they have persevered to overcome difficulties using the support of their friends and adults around them.

Golden Writing Book

At HNTPS, we have been working incredibly hard to improve the presentation of our learning in our books.  Staff have been working with the children on the formation of letters as well as the specific joins as the children move into Key Stage 2.  Each week we will be sharing a ‘golden piece of writing’ in our whole school assembly to highlight the fantastic writing we can see in the children’s books.  These examples of writing will be put in our school ‘golden book’, which will be available in the school lobby for parents and visitors to view.

Curriculum Newsletters

Curriculum newsletters have been shared below in this week’s newsletter.  The curriculum newsletters share what the children will be learning across the curriculum.  As always, if you have any artefacts or information that can support the topics and learning your child/ren are exploring in class, please speak to your child’s class teacher.

Year 4 Multiplication Check

Our year 4 children have been focusing on the recall of their timetables through their daily maths lessons and their Monday-after-school club.  On the week beginning Monday 1st June, the children will complete their multiplication table check, which will assess their quick recall of their times tables to 12.  Please continue to support your children by practicing their times tables at home.  For more information about the times table check, please click on the link below:

www.gov.uk/government/publications/multiplication-tables-check-information-for-parents

Our Monday times table after-school club will run on 11th May and 18th May and then finish.

Year 1 Phonics Screen Check

Phonics is part of our everyday learning in class 1 and 2.  The children learn new sounds across the week that support the children to read and write new words.  On the week beginning Monday 8th June, the children in class 1 will be assessed on reading 40 words, 20 real words and 20 nonsense words.  Please can we ask that parents continue to support their children with their daily reading and their phonics flashcards that we be sent home over the next week.  For more information about the phonics screen check, please click on the link below:

Lunchtime Arrangements

From next week, classes will be visiting the field at lunchtimes to enjoy the play equipment and make use of the space to play some team sports.  Please can we ask that children bring a sun hat to school along with their water bottle.  We hope that the sun continues to shine, and we can get to enjoy being outside.

Year 6 Bude Residential Meeting

A huge thank you to all our year 6 parents who came along to our year 6 Bude residential meeting on Wednesday after school.  We are excited about the range of activities our year 6 children will have the opportunity to experience across the week, as well as making new friends and experiences with other year 6 children across the trust.  If you were unable to make the meeting and have any questions about the visit, please speak to Mrs Carter or Mrs Hopkins at the school pick-up.

Sports Day:

Tuesday 9th June: Reception to Year 6 SPORTS DAY at 1.00pm

Friday 12th June: Nursery SPORTS DAY at 10.00am

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,

Mrs Cook
