Dear parents and carers,
This week as the sun continues to shine, the children have enjoyed the use of the village field. The children will be visiting the field in their year groups during their lunch time to enjoy the play equipment and have lots of room to run around playing team games and enjoying the space. Each class will also be working on developing the raised beds in the field this term led by Mrs Radley and our eco warrior team.
I spent sometime visiting classes this week to look at how the children engage with their learning and how they have been developing their own independence. It was lovely to see the children think through the stages of their learning activities, demonstrating their ability to communicate with each other, collaborating ideas and reflecting on their learning. As staff we have come together to look at the areas we would like the children to continue to develop as we move through the remainder of the summer term.
A big well done to our year 6 children
On Wednesday this week, our year 6 children had their last SATs club session. We are incredibly proud of the hard work and determination they have shown over the year and the positive engagement they have demonstrated with their learning. Regardless of their outcomes with their upcoming assessments, we know that each one of our year 6 children have tried their best with all aspects of their learning, well done to each one of you, we know that you will all smash next week! Just to remind our year 6 parents that we will be having a special year 6 breakfast each morning for our year 6 children to enjoy. Children are invited to come to school at 8:15am to enjoy breakfast with each other and Mrs Hopkins before they begin their assessments.
Reading at Home
At HNTPS, we encourage each child to enjoy and treasure their love of reading from the moment they join us in nursery or reception. Reading is part of our everyday timetable, whether children are being read to by their class teacher, engaging in guided or individual reading activities or discussing the impact a writer’s words have had through the language they have used. We use a reading programme for children across the school that assesses the children’s understanding of what they have read using a range of varied questions. The children’s responses enable staff to select appropriate levels of books that stretch and challenge the children with their vocabulary and understanding. We encourage the children to read daily at home and ask that an adult completes their reading record book. Regular reading helps to develop fluency, vocabulary and imagination as well as how children perceive themselves as a writer.
Home Learning Activities
As well as reading daily, children in years 1 to 6 are given home learning to complete weekly. Their home learning is an opportunity to consolidate what the children have been learning in class across the week and is usually sent home on Friday and asked to be returned by Wednesday of the following week. Staff use the children’s home learning activities as part of their on-going assessments to plan and prepare activities as well as interventions to best support a child to embed specific key skills, knowledge and understanding and deepen their thinking. We know how busy family life can be at weekends, and are able to offer support to parents who are struggling to support their children to complete their learning at home.
As the sun continues to shine, please can we ask that children bring a sun hat and drinks bottle to school each day.
Many thanks for your continued support,
Mrs Cook
