Dear parents and carers,
Welcome back to the second half of the summer term. We hope you all had a restful half-term and enjoyed the glorious sunshine we had for the week. We have got so many events and activities planned for this half-term. Please do check the dates for events in the newsletter and for regular updates on our Facebook page. We are very much looking forward to sharing lots of opportunities for you to come and see the children engaging in events, book and biscuit sessions and, of course, our end of year performance.
Whole School Ethos Focus - Kindness
This half-term our whole school focus will look at Kindness. In our whole school assembly this week, the children discussed what actions we can demonstrate to be kind and what we can do at home and in school to show kindness to others. The children came up with a long list of ideas, including smiling and saying good morning to someone, asking others to join in their game so they don’t feel left out and helping others who are finding their learning difficult to overcome problems. Staff will be awarding a child from each class a certificate for kindness each week this half-term. The children will be exploring other ways to show kindness in their weekly PSHE sessions.
Celebration next week – Friday 12th June
Unfortunately, we are unable to use the Gospel Hall next week, so we will not be holding our weekly celebration assembly as usual. Any child who receives a certificate next week will have them presented in the celebration assembly the week after (Friday 19th June) and parents will be invited to join us.
Sports Day – Reception to year 6 Tuesday 9th June and Nursery Friday 12th June
As you are aware, our sports day for children in reception to year 6 has been scheduled for next Tuesday afternoon from 1pm in the Parish field. We are keeping a close eye on the weather and will update parents on Monday morning as we may need to reschedule if the weather is not looking promising. This will also be the case on Thursday next week for the nursery sports day scheduled for Friday at 10am. Please keep a look-out for Facebook updates and emails. Fingers crossed the sun makes an appearance!
Book and Biscuit Event – Tuesday 16th June
Our next Book and Biscuit event will take place on Tuesday 16th June from 2:45-3:30pm. Parents are invited into their child/ren’s classes to find out what the children have been learning in our wider curriculum subjects of history, geography and Religious and world-view subjects. We are looking forward to seeing many of our parents sharing the fantastic learning of their children in school that afternoon.
Year 6 Transition Days
We have two exciting transition events coming up for our current Year 6 children. These events are designed to support children with their transition to secondary school by helping them feel more confident and familiar with some of the pupils they may be joining in September. Children will have the opportunity to meet others from across our trust who are moving to the same secondary school, make new friendships, and reconnect with friends they have met on previous team trips. We hope these experiences will help make the move to secondary school a positive and reassuring one. Further details have been sent out to you via email.
Monday 15th June @ Umberleigh for all children moving on to GTS and Park
Thursday 18th June @ Witheridge for all children moving on to Chumleigh and Bideford College
Year 4 Multiplication Check
Next week, the children in year 4 will be completing their multiplication check. They have been continuing to build on their practice of their timetables to 12 as part of their daily classroom routines. Please support your child to continue to practice over the weekend to enable them to be as best prepared as they can for the assessment next week. Thank you for your continued support.
Year 1 Phonics screen Check
Next week, our year 1 children will be completing their phonics screen check. Packs have been sent home to support those children with additional reading at home. Please continue to hear your child read each evening and complete their reading records daily. Again, many thanks for your continued support.
As the weather has been so unpredictable this week, please can we ask that children bring a coat to school each day. We try our best, even in the drizzle, to get the children outside for some fresh air during break and lunchtimes. Children will also need a sun hat and a water bottle too.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,
Mrs Cook
