Dear parents and carers,
It’s been another busy and enjoyable week at Horwood, and it’s certainly been lovely to have some more favourable weather!
On Monday, we had a fantastic Transition Day, with the children spending time in their new classrooms and getting to know their new classmates. It was wonderful to see so much excitement and enthusiasm for the year ahead.
Next week is looking just as busy, so please do take a moment to check the calendar carefully to make sure you don’t miss any of our upcoming events.
Kindness
Mrs Carter led a wonderful assembly on kindness this week, reminding us of the ripple effect that even the smallest acts of kindness can have. It was heartwarming to hear about the many thoughtful ways our children are making a positive difference to those around them. From inviting someone to join in a game, making something special for a friend, or simply taking the time to say hello, these small gestures have a big impact. We are incredibly proud of the kindness and compassion our children show every day, and we encourage everyone to keep spreading kindness wherever they go.
Basketball Festival
Some of our Year 4 and Year 5 children represented Horwood at a basketball festival at Pilton Community College this week. They had a fantastic time developing their skills, learning some new techniques and showing great teamwork throughout the day. You’ll find more information and some photographs from the event further down the newsletter.
Citizenship Awards - Awards ceremony is on 15th July
A big thank you to all the families who have sent in their children’s Citizenship Awards books. It has been wonderful to see so many children enjoying activities with their families while developing important life skills and experiences that will benefit them in the future. We really appreciate your continued support with this fantastic initiative.
Sports Day - Tuesday 7th July
We’re keeping our fingers crossed for good weather so that we can go ahead with Sports Day as planned next week. The afternoon will begin at 1.00pm with our family group activities, and parents are very welcome to follow their children around during this part of the event.
Afterwards, we’ll move on to our competitive races. To help everything run smoothly and safely, we kindly ask that parents avoid standing at the end of the race lanes, as this can make it difficult for the children to finish their races safely. Thank you for your understanding and support.
Colour Run - Friday 10th July
Our much-anticipated Colour Run, organised by the Friends, takes place next week. Staff will take the children over to the field and those who have signed up will enjoy taking part during the afternoon. We’re really looking forward to what promises to be a fun-filled event. A huge thank you to the Friends for all their hard work in organising it. For those children who are not taking part in the run itself, there will be a range of activities for them to do on the field as well as watching and cheering on their friends.
Road Safety
- Please take extra care when parking your car during drop-off and pick-up.
- We recommend that parents park in the Village Hall car park and walk children to school.
- Please also be extra vigilant when driving and walking on the roads around the school.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Hopkins
