Dear parents and carers, 
A warm welcome back to the new school year. We hope you all had a lovely relaxing summer, making the most of the beautiful weather we had across the summer months. It was so lovely to see all the children returning through the school gates on Monday, looking very smart in their uniforms, ready to share the excitement of their summer holidays with their friends. They have settled very quickly to class routines and staff have commented on the fantastic enthusiasm and engagement of the children with their learning. We are very much looking forward to an exciting year ahead with lots of activities, trips and visits planned to enrich our exciting curriculum.
Our whole school focus this half-term is Respect. This week in our whole school assembly, the children discussed what respect means to them and how they can show respect to others. Through our discussions, the children shared their ideas with each other, which included, showing kindness to everyone, remembering our please and thank you, valuing each other’s thoughts and opinions and looking after our school environment. Over this half-term, we will be exploring respect in our school, the local community and wider environment. Children will be awarded a certificate in our weekly celebration assembly each Friday who have demonstrated respect across the week.
School Leadership Team
We spoke to the children on Monday, inviting children in years 3,4,5 and 6 to apply for their school leadership roles. Positions are available for School Council, Librarians, Sports Leaders and Eco Warriors. We are encouraging the children to apply by writing a letter outlining why they would like to be part of that particular group, sharing any special qualities or ideas they have. All letters of application can be given to Mrs Dorrell and Mrs Hopkins by the end of the day on Monday.
Acts of Kindness
We would like to share the acts of kindness that the children at HNTPS carry out in our weekly newsletter. If your child/ren has carried out any acts of kindness at home or within the community, we would love to share them. Please send photographs and a brief outline of their kindness to Carla by Wednesday so we can add them to our weekly newsletter. We can’t wait to hear all about the lovely things the children have been doing.
Tuck Shop Reminder
Just to remind all parents that you can now make payments for this half-term tuck shop treat on Friday afternoon. The total cost is £3 to cover the next six weeks (50p per week). The payments can be made through Arbor, which will be open until Wednesday at 12pm.
Curriculum Newsletters
This term's class curriculum newsletters will be published on our school website and sent to parents via email next Friday.
Home learning
Home learning across the classes will begin next week. Please look out for this coming home so that you can support your child with this.
PE days across the week
Please see below the PE days for each class. Can we ask that children come to school in their PE kit on these days (trainers, tracksuit bottoms/leggings or shorts, plain white t-shirt and school jumper). The village hall has been booked for these sessions, so that the children can still continue with our PE curriculum regardless of the weather.

Lunch and Wrap-around care - breakfast club and after-school club - payments in Arbor
We would be grateful if you could ensure your child has sufficient funds in their lunch and wrap-around care club accounts in Arbor to pay for meals/sessions booked.
Year 4 Swimming Sessions
Thank you to those parents who have already made payments for their child’s swimming sessions which start next Thursday for all our year 4 children across this half-term. We have secured one of our TEAM minibuses to transport the children to their swimming lessons at Torrington each week. Children will leave after lunch each Thursday and return to school before the end of the school day. Please can we ask that all payments are made by Wednesday 16th September.
Celebration assembly
We are so grateful to Trevor for providing us with the use of the Gospel Hall each week to celebrate the fantastic achievements of our children at HNTPS. Each week, we will be recognising the achievements made by our children and awarding our school value certificate, star learner of the week and dojo certificates. Parents will be notified on Thursday if their child will be awarded a certificate in assembly, but everyone is welcome to join us in the Gospel Hall at 9:15am each Friday.
As the weather has been so unpredictable this week, please can we ask that your child comes to school with a coat each day. Children are also encouraged to bring a water bottle to school each day (class 1 children leave their water bottles at school) which can be refilled throughout the day if needed.
