Enabling children to be the best that they can be!

Dear parents and carers,

This week in assembly, we have been talking about how respect is not always something we can see, but it can make a big difference to how people feel. We discussed the importance of listening carefully to others, not interrupting, and making sure everyone feels included in games, conversations and activities.

Small acts of kindness and consideration can help others feel heard, valued and welcome. Together, these everyday actions help us to build a school community where everyone feels that they belong.

Class 1

On Tuesday, Class 1 had an exciting morning exploring recipes to create some delicious apple muffins. They were joined by the pre-school children from Lovacott Nursery and had a great morning making new friends, following instructions and, of course tasting their yummy muffins once they had cooked in the oven.   A huge thank you to the staff from Lovacott Nursery for bringing the children to join us and to Mrs Radley and Mrs Blunt for organising the event. We are looking forward to inviting Lovacott Nursery to future events at school.

Appledore Book Festival

Next week, we are looking forward to inviting authors Layn Marlow and Joseph Elliott to school to share their books with the children.  We look forward to welcoming the authors to our school and hearing all about their fabulous books.

Bubble Church

Rev Gary joined class 1 and 2 on Wednesday afternoon with his puppets and shared a story about the good and bad shepherds.  The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in lots of singing and dancing.  They will have come home with a flyer today which gives more information about the dates of future Bubble Church events.

Cross Country Event

On Monday, a number of children from Key Stage 2 will be taking part in a TEAM cross-country event at High Bickington Primary School.  If there are any parent volunteers who could support with this trip, please let us know as soon as possible.

Celebration Assembly

Due to a private event taking place in the Gospel Hall, there will be no celebration assembly next week – Friday 2nd October.  We will be postponing the weekly certificates and presenting them the following Friday 9th October at our usual time of 9:15am.  Everyone is welcome to join us then.

Harvest Celebration – Wednesday 14th October

We would like to invite our families and the wider community to join us for our Harvest Celebration.  The children will be sharing thanks, what harvest means to them as well as singing some fabulous Harvest songs.  Our year 6 children will share the great work carried out by the Freedom Centre in Barnstaple.  We would warmly welcome any food donations which will be collected in the school lobby.  Attached to this week’s newsletter is a list of foods that have been shared by the Freedom Centre.  Donations can be sent to school with your child.  These will be displayed in the school lobby and donated to the Freedom Centre after our Harvest Celebration.  Many thanks for your continued support.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,

Mrs Cook
