Dear parents and carers,
This week in our whole school assembly we reflected on the half-term focus of respect. We discussed how we can show respect in many ways, including how we act and the things that we say to others. I shared the image of a clean crisp sheet of paper being crumbled every time we say or do something that hurts or upsets others around us. Even though we maybe apologise afterwards and are sorry for what we have done, this can leave a mark, like our crumbled paper. The children talked about strategies they could use to support themselves and others when they are feeling overwhelmed, such as taking deep breaths, counting to 10, walking away to a safe space or finding an adult to support them.
Launch of our Citizenship Award
On Monday afternoon, the children will explore the tasks they have been set for this academic year with our citizenship award. Within the session, the children will look at completing one of the tasks in their new citizenship scrap books. The children will then take their scrap books home next week to begin completing the rest of their tasks at home. We thought that the children may wish to complete some of their activities over the half-term holidays. We had lots of children achieve their citizenship award at the end of the last academic year and we hope we have many more children achieving the award this year! Please support your child to complete the tasks set for their year group. The children have lots of time to enable them to complete each challenge.
Parents Phonics Workshop
Children in reception and year 1 have been engaged in their daily phonics sessions this half-term, developing sound knowledge to help them read new words. Next half-term, Mrs Radley will be hosting a parents’ phonics workshop on Tuesday 3rd November from 2:30-3:25pm in class 1. The workshop will share important information of the Floppy Phonics Programme we follow in school and how you can best support your child with their reading at home. We look forward to welcoming parents to this event.
School Council Tuck Shop
The school council has led a successful weekly tuck shop this half-term. They have talked to the children across the school of the range of treats they would like to be available for the upcoming weeks. If you would like to sign your child/ren for the weekly tuck shop for next half-term, payments can now be made through Arbor. The cost is £3.50 which covers the 7 weeks of the next half-term. The closing date for payments is Tuesday 3rd November.
Operation Christmas Child 2026
This year we would like to support the Christmas shoebox appeal again. We are asking that each child brings in a small donation to create a shoebox full of gifts. This shoebox will be delivered to a child around the world to open on Christmas morning. Details of the small items that the children can donate can be found on the link below. Last year we managed to successfully deliver 13 boxes to ensure that children had some special presents to open at Christmas. We hope that our families will continue to support this worthy cause. We are asking that all donations are brought into school for the end of the first week back after the half-term (Friday 6th November) in order to meet the posting deadline.

Harvest Celebration – Tuesday 20th October
Just to remind all our parents that we will be holding our Harvest Celebration on Tuesday afternoon from 2:45-3:30pm in the Gospel Hall. Everyone is welcome. Thank you to everyone who has kindly donated items for our harvest hamper which will be delivered to the Freedom Centre next week. Donations can be brought into school and added to our already growing collection of food items in the front lobby.
Parking
We have been approached by the local residents about the volume of traffic on the roads during morning drop off and afternoon pick-ups. Please can we ask that parents use the village hall car park and refrain from parking their cars directly outside the school. This will ease traffic for our school bus to drop off safely and staff to use the limited parking available outside the school. Many thanks for your continued support.
Year 6 Parents Fundraising Group Non-uniform Day - Friday 23rd October
Children are welcome to come to school in their own clothes on Friday, for a £1.00 donation towards the Year 6 fundraising for the Bude Residential.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,
Mrs Cook
